Questions, bugs or ideas about Balanced, Waves, Present, Tempo, Cadence or Spine: write to [email protected]. A person reads every message, usually within a few days.
When something isn't working, it helps to say which app, which device, and the version shown in the app's settings.
All the apps
- Accounts. There are none. Nothing to sign up for, so nothing to reset or recover.
- Where your data lives. On your device, in your own iCloud if you use it, and in Apple Health if you allow it. We never receive it, so we can't see or restore it for you.
- Sync between devices. Sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on, on each device. Changes usually arrive within a minute or two of opening the app.
- Deleting your data. Deleting an app removes what it keeps on that device. To remove the synced copy as well, go to Settings › your name › iCloud › Storage on an iPhone or iPad, choose the app and delete its data. Anything the app saved to Apple Health stays there until you delete it in the Health app.
- Privacy. What each app reads, writes and sends is in its policy: Balanced, Waves, Present, Tempo, Cadence, Spine.
Balanced
- Apple Health. Balanced reads your weight and energy and saves the foods you log. To change what it can access on an iPhone, go to Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Balanced.
- Magic entry. It turns a sentence like "two eggs and toast" into entries. It uses Apple Intelligence on supported devices, or an AI provider you choose with your own key, set in Settings › Magic entry. You review every item before it's saved.
- Barcodes. Scanning looks the product up in Open Food Facts, so it needs a connection. Foods from the bundled USDA and Canadian tables work offline.
- Export. Your whole log can be exported as a plain file from Settings, at any time.
Waves
- Apple Health. Waves reads and saves your moods as State of Mind. To change its access on an iPhone, go to Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Waves.
- iPad and Mac. Moods you log there sync to your iPhone, which adds them to Apple Health the next time Waves is open on it.
- Importing. Settings › Import moods takes your mood history from Apple Health or from a file, such as a Daylio export. Importing the same file twice adds nothing.
Present
- Turning on the Safari extension. On iPhone or iPad: Settings › Apps › Safari › Extensions › Present, turn it on, and set All Websites to Allow. On a Mac: Safari › Settings › Extensions, tick Present, then Edit Websites and set Other Websites to Allow. Repeat on each device. Present's Settings shows whether the extension is on.
- Adding a site from Safari. Tap or click Present in Safari's toolbar or extensions menu while on the site, then Add to Present. The same button shows how many unlock minutes are left today, and removes a site.
- The pause doesn't appear. Check the site is in Present's list of sites, and that the extension is allowed on all websites. Otherwise Safari only runs it on sites you've approved one by one.
- The daily unlock budget is shared by every site and every device, and resets at midnight. Minutes are counted as soon as you continue.
Tempo
- Setting the time. Drag the knob on the dial to set 1 to 60 minutes, then press play. Tap the task name to change it.
- On a Mac, Tempo lives in the menu bar and as a small floating dial, with no Dock icon. Drag the dial to move it, right-drag to resize it, and use the menu bar icon for Settings and Reset Size.
- Shortcuts and Siri. Try "Start focus in Tempo", "Pause Tempo" or "Stop Tempo". In Shortcuts, Start Focus takes a task and a number of minutes.
- Lock Screen. On iPhone, a running timer shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island once Tempo has been opened. To allow it, go to Settings › Apps › Tempo › Live Activities.
Cadence
- Checking off a habit. Swipe right when it's done, left for a rest day. Swipe again to undo. For a count, like 8 glasses, tap the ring once for each; long-press it for one less.
- Rest days never count against a habit. A missed day dents its rhythm but doesn't reset it: Steady, Building or Fading shows where it stands.
- Changing a past day or adding a note: open the habit and tap the day in its calendar.
- Widgets and Control Center. Add the Today or Habit widget and tap a ring to check a habit off without opening the app. Shortcuts and Siri: try "Mark Read as done in Cadence".
Spine
- Readest. Sign in with your Readest account in Settings › Readest. Spine then follows your progress on its own whenever it's open. It only reads from Readest and never changes your library there.
- Books Readest doesn't have. Tap + to scan a barcode, type an ISBN or search by title or author. Long-press a book's cover and choose Log Progress to note the page you're on.
- Removing a book hides it in Spine and in your stats. Your copy in Readest stays as it is.
- History. Readest keeps only your latest position, so Spine records each change while it's open on one of your devices. Stats use Readest's own reading time to fill the gaps.
